Adam's Rib (1949) features Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. Married attorneys find themselves on opposing sides of an attempted-murder case after a wife shoots at her unfaithful husband. Their courtroom sparring turns questions of fairness and gender into a personal battle that follows them home. George Cukor directs this celebrated romantic comedy, with Tracy and Hepburn playing a couple whose professional rivalry threatens their marriage. The sharp dialogue and contrasting legal arguments give the story its lasting wit.
